History and Background of BCM/DRP tool development

By the end of the 80s only disaster management manuals were created by word processing system. At this time rather unknown in Germany.

From the U.S. came 2 tools at the end of the 80s. Some companies have installed and used these tools. The problem of these tools was essential in that they describe "Hurricane" and "Earthquake" disasters. As a German company it was less helpful. At this time, the founder of the ROG has translated mostly of one of the tools for the German market.

ROG starts in 1988 to plan a tool for the German market, which matches the requirements of German companies. Based on the experients from many DR plans, created for data centres of all kind, we have started to design our own tool. The design was completed at the end of 1988 and development starts early in 1989. We have had 2 main things in our mind: using a good database and a professional program language. We decided for Oracle as database.

In the year 1990 we have installed our new tool – ROGSI/DMS (disaster management system) the first time. And we have to build an English version as well.

In the year 1991 we have released the first graphical activity plan (GAP). ROGSI/DMS was the first tool with graphical plans included.

Also in the year 1991 we have presented ROGSI/DMS the first time at the CeBIT fair in Hannover. This was a big step for a small company.

In the year 1992 we start to develop the next version ROGSI/DMS V2 which was released in 1993.

The next step was released in the year 1996 with ROGSI/DMS V3. Again we have used a “real” Database to maintain the data.

This version was replaced in the year 2000 by ROGSI/DMS V4. Today (spring 2009) ROGSI/DMS V4.2.38 is the current version and matches the requirements of many companies. Development is an ongoing business and new data, information, functions and relations are a permanent job.

ROGSI/DMS is regardless from other tools, like Report Generator or Word Processing software. Everything is part of our product and in the package.

Many modules around the DMS, like Import, Export or Client Support, are building a complete suite. One main highlight is the offline use of ROGSI/DMS, straight from an USB device. Software and database are stored on an USB device and the application can be started from this device without any installation. This is the highest level of availability. No matter if the network is available or the server is down. You’re local offline gives you all you need.

In the year 2009 again some major news are coming up.

First we have released ROGSI/BIA (business impact analysis) and ROGSI/RIA (risk assessment). Both tolls are browser based asp tools and supports you in executing such surveys.

Also in 2009 we will release the first version of ROGSI/DMS V5. This is the browser based version of ROGSI/DMS V4 and is an “add on”, and not a replacement.

Looking back over the years with successful business on BCM and DRP we can proudly declare, that ROGSI/DMS was and is the most innovative tool in the European market. ROGSI/DMS is the leading suite on the market.

We can see enough potential for the future to develop the functions and information our existing and new customer need for their BCM.
